Harold Tyne Johnson, 80, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 16, 2016. At his passing, he was surrounded by loving family members, saddened for their loss but rejoicing for his release from pain and suffering.

He was born on December 24, 1935 in Wilmington, NC, the oldest of five children, to the late Curtis B. and Addie Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, JoAnn Jordan Johnson. He is survived by his daughter, Laura L. Johnson; granddaughter, Sophie K. Thompson; four sisters, Joanie Theisen (David), Dianne Lee (Harold), Kay Klubnik (Stephen) and Gloria Heath (David) and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him very much.

Harold graduated from New Hanover High School in 1954, lettering in football and basketball. In 1955, he married Cora JoAnn Jordan, during his four year tour of duty in the United States Air Force. After his service, he graduated from the University of South Carolina with a B.A. in Art. He spent his professional career as a commercial artist, owning an advertising agency in Wilmington. He was a prolific cartoonist and enjoyed painting beautiful watercolor scenes of the waterfront that he loved so much. He was a Forty + year member of Pine Valley Baptist Church and held his church family close to his heart.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Pine Valley Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be forwarded to the charity of ones choice in memory of Harold Johnson.
